Personality & Traits

General Overview Miles is generally reserved and quiet these days. His time during the Dominion war is largely classified, some of it is believed too be related to a number of bloody battles for which he doesn't talk about and will often leave the room when the topic of the war begins in any conversation. His personal life is another topic he doesn't talk about much either beyond people know he's from somewhere in North America and speaks with an accent at times.
Strengths & Weaknesses (+) Sharp mind, quick to follow orders and collect the necessary information and present it in a complete manner
(+) Dedicated and by the book officer (This can also be a negative in morally challenging situations)
(-) Questions about his personal life and war time activities tend to be a sensitive topic
Ambitions Miles is vague about his ambitions as he knows 'There's a time an place to advance' as he is regularly quoted.
Hobbies & Interests Miles is an avid reader, but isn't above a holodeck program or other sporting activity

Personal History Miles is the older son of Kevin and Elizabeth Mercer, while both Miles and his Brother Colin entered the academy, Miles who'd excel academically and earn not one but to degree's resulting in his joining intelligence, and Kevin would join the Marines. Miles served on a number of posts through out the war, including the ill-fated second battle of Chintoka where he would witness the marines put up a valiant struggle against the Dominion forces, Miles was one of a number of intelligence officers who warned against not reenforcing the units deployed there. Miles took the defeat personally, driven home by the death of his brother during the withdrawal. The loss of life and his brother lead to an incident that is unclear, during a heated exchange it's believed that either Miles or another intelligence officer struck a senior officer, while there are conflicting reports as to who started the altercation and who delivered the knockout punch.

At the conclusion of the war Miles was relegated to desk job on earth, while he wasn't officially demoted, the dead-end desk assignment initially left him feeling as if he was expected to resign. Miles took a leave of absence in the early part of 2376 where he published two papers on the war, one that largely was ignored as it was about the tactical adaptations starfleet made and the second was about the tactical changes made following the Breen entry into the war which initially drew more attention including a newly promoted Commodore who would be the new director of intelligence operations.

Miles returned to Intelligence with a new vigor, even shedding mire of the brawl years before, his activities are largely classified excluding several dozen after action studies from the war. but as with all things change was on the horizon and Miles found himself on the way out as the Commodore was reassigned to other things. Miles found himself sitting in a cubical waiting on a field assignment.
